Mohawk wins N10 title outright

N10 champs

SYCAMORE — Mohawk has had good teams — some of them exceptional — nearly every season for the last couple of decades, but many of those teams were unable to win league championships. The Warriors met that challenging goal, winning their first Northern 10 Athletic Conference title outright by beating Ridgedale, 25-10, 25-14, 25-9, on Thursday night.

Infirmary Cemetery Memorial Committee preps for ceremony

The Wyandot County Infirmary Cemetery Memorial Committee held its final meeting Wednesday at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in advance of the Oct. 20 dedication ceremony. Since the last meeting, the base of the memorial was poured, four benches have been placed around the memorial site thanks to help from the Wyandot County Commissioners and some landscaping has been performed by Mary and Dale Reinhart as well as Mike Wheeler.

The Upper Sandusky fourth and fifth grade football team recently defeated Wynford, 30-0. Offensively for Upper Sandusky: Levi Yeater, 7 carries for 173 yards, 3 TDs; Wyatt Kennedy, 1 reception for 1 yard; Curtis Paymon, 2 carries for 53 yards, 1 TD; Kasen Gottfried, 12 yards rushing, 2 receptions for 20 yards; Ethen Lewis, 4 completions for 83 yards; Josh Heilman, 2 receptions for 62 yards, 1 TD.

Ancient oak

One of the oldest oak trees in Upper Sandusky, believed to be over 200 years old, was removed Tuesday by Oberlander’s Tree and Landscape Ltd. from Old Mission Cemetery. The tree was over 20 feet in diameter at the base and had to be removed one limb at a time via a crane for safety reasons.

Since 2012, the Mohawk volleyball team had not won a league title. But moments after Kaylee Ward’s kill gave the Warriors a nine-point third set victory, the Warriors clinched at least a share of the of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference title with a 25-12, 25-15, 25-16 victory over Upper Sandusky on Tuesday at Upper Sandusky High School.
