BUCYRUS — Crawford County Soil and Water Conservation District is making landowner records prior to 1990 available to local landowners. The Crawford SWCD is offering landowners the opportunity to pick up old tile plans and other conservation records created prior to 1990.

Joyce Morehart recently was recognized by the Erie Basin Resource Conservation & Development Council for her service as president in 2007-2008. She currently serves as a council member representing Wyandot County along with current Wyandot County Commissioner Bill Clinger, at large member Don Schilling, and Wyandot Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisor Larry Passet.

National Agriculture Day is today and is a day designated each year by the Agriculture Council of America to celebrate the accomplishments of agriculture. Wyandot County Farm Service Agency joins the council in recognizing farmers and ranchers for their contributions to the nation’s quality of life. This year’s theme is Agriculture: Food for Life.

KENTON — Ohio State University Extension and the Hardin County Farm Bureau are holding a Farm Safety Day on Saturday, at Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative, 1210 W. Lima Street, Kenton. The free event will start at 8:30 a.m. with doughnuts, coffee, and juice.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture and Farm Service Agency county offices now offer farmers and producers the opportunity to receive notifications from their county office through text messages on their cellphones. Whether producers are in the field, or on a tractor, this service enables FSA customers and stakeholders to receive notifications while on the go.

Wyandot FSA County Committee recently named Deb Rellinger of Upper Sandusky as COC adviser. Advisers play an important role by providing diverse viewpoints and by representing the interests of minorities and women in decisions made by county committees.

COLUMBUS – Stemming the dramatic increases in taxes on farmland and compiling data on the density of livestock in Ohio’s watersheds lead the Ohio Farmers Union’s list of public policy priorities for the year. Current Agricultural Use Valuation is the formula used to value farmland for tax purposes in Ohio.

CAREY — Carey FFA President Carley Coppler made history Saturday by becoming the first known Carey FFA member to qualify to compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October after winning her event at the state competition. Coppler previously made history by becoming the first Carey FFA member to reach the state competition level all four years of her high school career.

The Farm Service Agency makes loans to youth to establish and operate income-producing projects in connection with 4-H clubs, FFA and other agricultural groups. Projects must be planned and operated with the help of the organization adviser, produce sufficient income to repay the loan and provide the youth with practical business and educational experience.
